LUKOIL GIVES SUPPORT TO EXPEDITION TO STUDY ATLANTIC WALRUS IN THE BARENTS SEA
Wednesday, November 2, 2016
LUKOIL has unveiled a report on the Atlantic walrus. The findings, collected during the expedition to the south-east area of the Barents Sea, were presented at the IX International Conference “Marine Mammals of the Holarctic 2016”, in Astrakhan today.
The research expedition was launched in 2016 as part of a dialogue between PJSC LUKOIL and WWF. The study was undertaken by experts from the Marine Mammals Council. The walrus, of all marine mammals, is the most indicative species to estimate the environmental condition of the Barents Sea southeast.
Conservation of biological diversity around the company’s offshore facilities is a priority for LUKOIL, which meticulously observes the zero discharge principle throughout exploration and production drilling and at commercial production of hydrocarbons.
