For 35 years, LUKOIL has been one of the world’s leading companies for crude oil and gas production, and their refinement into petroleum products and petrochemicals. Every day millions of people all over the world buy our products, and use those products to improve the quality of their lives.

  • 1991 — LUKOIL oil industry group is created.

  • 1992 — Creation of authorized capital of the newly incorporated LUKoil joint-stock company, the Company  ranking among the top three global leaders in terms of oil production.

  • 1993 — Public Joint Stock Company “Oil Company “LUKOIL” Incorporated. The Company establishes the LUKOIL Charity Fund at the initiative of its management.

  • 1994 — organized share trading on secondary market commenced. Participation in the first international project in Azerbaijan. Inter-regional trade union organization created.

  • 1995 — Switching over to common corporate shares and geographic presence expansion. ARCO (USA) becomes JSC LUKOIL’s major shareholder and strategic partner.

  • 1996 — Participation in Shakh-Deniz international gas project. Offering American Depositary Receipts on the Company’s shares.

  • 1997 — First projects in Kazakhstan and Iraq. First offering at the MICE. LUKOIL Racing Team created.

  • 1998 — Acquiring first foreign downstream assets. LUKOIL Sports Club Created.

  • 1999 — Ukhta and Odessa refineries, Saratovorgsintez, Stavrolen, and Bugras refinery (Bulgaria) acquired.

  • 2000 — A new oil and gas province in the Caspian Sea discovered. Fortune Global 500 rating of the world’s top companies assigned. New generation engine oils produced. U.S. retail market of petroleum products entered.

  • 2001 — Certification for compliance with international safety standards. Acquisition of Nizhniy Novgorod refinery and production assets in Bolshekhetskaya Depression and Timan-Pechora.

  • 2002 — International expansion. Construction of Vysotsk terminal commenced. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Astra floating drilling rig.

  • 2003 — Expansion of the sales network in Europe. Anaran, a major project in Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited LUKOIL’s service station in New York.

  • 2004 — Strategic partnership with ConocoPhillips. Presence in Kazakhstan expanded. LUKOIL increases its gas assets in Uzbekistan. U.S. network of service stations expanded.

  • 2005 — V. Filanovskiy field discovered in the Caspian Sea. Finnish petroleum products market entered. Large-scale production of LUKOIL Euro-4 diesel fuel.

  • 2006 — Vysotsk shipping terminal commissioned. Joining African offshore projects. Acquisition of marketing assets in Europe.

  • 2007 — New projects in Western Africa. A major hydrocarbon accumulation in Saudi Arabia discovered. Fixed offshore ice-resistant shipping terminal in the Barents Sea installed.

  • 2008 — Power engineering assets acquired. Presence in Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Italy expanded. First bulk oil shipments from Varandey terminal. Operations at Southern Khylchuyu field in northern Timan-Pechora launched.

  • 2009 — Interest in a Dutch refinery acquired. LUKOIL becomes 100% owner of LUKARCO B.V.

  • 2010 — Winning Bid for West Qurna-2 field (Iraq). Oil reserves discovered in the Gulf of Guinea on Ghana’s shelf. Production commenced at Yu. Korchagin field in the Caspian Sea. Romanian projects joined.

  • 2011 — LUKOIL opens Russia’s first ever corporate training center to train offshore oil industry personnel. A 50% stake in a Vietnamese offshore project acquired. LUKOIL and Bashneft establish a joint venture. Renewables developed. Joining a Sierra Leone project and discovery on Cote d’Ivoire shelf.

  • 2012 — LUKOIL switches over to production of only EURO 5 gasolines. Service Station Network expanded in Western Europe. LUKOIL launches production of new generation engine oils. LUKOIL’s social and cultural projects contest won the award of the first National program entitled “Best Russian Social Projects”.

  • 2013 — LUKOIL expands its presence in Western Africa. Production commenced at R.Trebs and A.Titov fields in Nenets Autonomous Okrug. LUKOIL acquires a 100% stake in ISAB refinery. LUKOIL acquires OMV’s European lubricant business and new service station network in the Benelux states.

  • 2014 — LUKOIL starts oil production at West Qurna-2 field in Iraq. The mining and dressing facility was commissioned at V. Grib diamond deposit. Participation in Cameroonian offshore project. LUKOIL opens Russia’s first private football arena.

  • 2015 — Integration into the Russian wholesale energy market. World record in horizontal drilling. Major offshore gas field discovered in Romania.

  • 2016 – LUKOIL celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Company started commercial production from 2 largest fields – V. Filanovsky in the Caspian and Pyakyakhinskoe in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, completed Russian refineries' upgrade program. A new progressive dividend policy was approved. 

  • 2017 — LUKOIL reaches planned production levels at the Vladimir Filanovsky and Pyakihinskoye fields, starts two large-scale projects in Uzbekistan, and confirms large oil reserves at Block 10 in Iraq. ECTO-100 revolutionary premium petrol hits the market. The Company takes part in the XVI session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and joins the "Zero Routine Flaring" initiative of the World Bank.

  • 2018 – LUKOIL starts buy-back, continues to develop lucrative offshore production projects, commissions a gas treatment complex in Uzbekistan, finishes construction of a solar power plant in Volgograd, and opens the Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiana in Kogalym.

  • 2019 – LUKOIL continues development of the Caspian shelf, brings a new field into production in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, concludes agreements on projects development with foreign partners, and launches manufacturing of new refined petroleum products. The Company adopts renewed dividend policy, presents a long-term outlook for the global market of liquid hydrocarbons until 2035 in light of global energy transformation.

  • 2020 – LUKOIL continues development of new offshore fields in the Caspian Sea, starts exploration at new fields, brings oil and gas condensate fields in Russia into pilot and commercial operation, continues working on overseas projects, finishes reconstruction of the Belorechenskaya hydro power plant, commences construction of the second stage of the Volgograd solar power plant. The Company comes first in the costumer trust and brand awareness ratings among the largest Russian fuel supplier. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, LUKOIL donates money to social aid programmes and charity projects in 24 Russian regions and 14 countries where it operates. This money is used to prevent the spread of infection, refurnish health care facilities, buy medical equipment and medicaments, and to help the most socially vulnerable groups.

  • 2021 — LUKOIL celebrated its 30th anniversary. The development of production projects in Russia and abroad continued, the Company's presence in Kazakhstan expanded. New production complexes were launched at Russian refineries, production of innovative polymer-bitumen binders began in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the modernization of refining and petrochemical facilities continued. A second solar power plant was opened in the Volgograd Region. LUKOIL presented its Global Energy Perspectives to 2050 forecast. A new Company museum was opened in Moscow.

  • 2022 — LUKOIL increased its stake in the Shah Deniz project in Azerbaijan, continued the modernization of its Russian refineries and generating facilities, and expanded its network of filling stations in Russia. Two solar power plants were commissioned: one in Krasnodar and one in Moscow. The use of green electricity for LUKOIL's own needs continued to increase. Several digitalization projects were implemented in the areas of personnel management and development, and the lubricants business. The Company acquired the Spartak Moscow football club and implemented several projects to improve the infrastructure of towns in Yugra. The Group's Human Rights Policy was adopted.

  • 2023 — LUKOIL expanded the development of subsoil resources in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea and continued to develop projects in Iraq. The largest core research center was opened in Perm. A unique flagship filling station was opened on the Moscow-Kazan highway, and LUKOIL's filling station network was recognized as the best in Russia. The second stage of the Kola Wind Farm was launched. The Company joined the global Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter. The LUKOIL Charity Fund celebrated its 30th anniversary.

  • 2024 — LUKOIL actively developed projects in the refining and petrochemical sector: the modernization of the lubricants plant in Torzhok was completed, and production of transmission fluids for electric vehicles was launched. The network of filling stations expanded in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, and the country's largest filling station was opened on the M-11 highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The development of renewable energy continued: a solar power plant was commissioned in Kazakhstan. Several large-scale projects were implemented to develop the social infrastructure in the regions of operation: an Education Center (a branch of Perm Polytech) was opened in Kogalym (Yugra), and a new stage for the Young Spectator's Theater began operating in Perm.

  • 2025 — Kogalym, LUKOIL's home city, celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark the anniversary, a park and a large-scale winter sports complex were opened with the Company's support. The development of oil refining continued – construction began on a catalytic cracking complex at the Perm Refinery. The network of filling stations in Russia was systematically expanded: the formation of a filling station corridor on the M-11 highway was completed, and two flagship filling station complexes were opened on the M-4 Don highway. As part of a joint project with Mosenergo, an electric vehicle charging hub was launched in Moscow. The LUKOIL Group Social Outreach Policy was adopted.
