Oil field discovery in Iran
MAJOR OIL FIELD DISCOVERY ON THE ANARAN EXPLORATION BLOCK IN IRAN
A major oil field discovery was made on the Anaran exploration block in west Iran.
Four promising structures were identified at Anaran block: Azar, Changuleh-West, Dehloran and Musian. Projected recoverable oil reserves of the block could reach 1 billion barrels. The mandatory work program includes drilling of five exploration wells.
The Anaran field was discovered as a result of testing of the exploration well on the Azar structure, that showed commercial oil inflow in July 2005. Exploration operations on the block are underway with the Changuleh-West well currently in drilling.
The interest of LUKOIL Overseas, LUKOIL subsidiary, in the contract is 25 %, with Norsk Hydro's stake at 75%.
