Preserving Cultural and Historic Heritage

LUKOIL views preservation of the Russian culture for the generations to come and promotion of the Russian culture and arts as an important social mission. The Company has provided both continuous support to museums, theaters, philharmonic halls, galleries, on-stage performance groups, and under individual projects (e.g., restoration work or production of theater pieces). The Company’s priority is to support all forms of classic arts.

In 2013—2014 the Company acted as partner and facilitator of some major cultural and fine arts events:

  • Tretyakov State Gallery — exhibitions entitled “Mikhail Nesterov. In search of my own Russia. Marking 150th Anniversary of the artist’s birth”, “Aleksandr Golovin. Silver age fantasies. Marking 150th Anniversary of the artist’s birth”;

  • the Moscow Kremlin Museums — exhibitions entitled “The art of preserving art. Restoration work in the Moscow Kremlin Museums”, “Charles Rennie Mackintosh”;

  • State Historical Museum — the exhibitions entitled “The Romanovs. Dynasty Portrait”, and “Venerable Sergius cell”. Marking 700th Anniversary of the birth of Sergius of Radonezh”;

  • Russian Museum — exhibitions entitled “Aleksandr Golovin. Marking 150th Anniversary of the artist’s birth”, “Kokorev Collection” being a part of the series “Russian Museum Collectors”.

LUKOIL has been continuously sponsoring the major Russian museums as well as numerous regional museums and galleries:

  • For instance, the museum of contemporary Russian history received assistance in drafting and publishing the exhibition catalogue “Chapters in the History of the North Caucasus Peoples (mid 19th first half of the 20th century)”;

  • The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts received financial backing to create a modern multimedia product at the Museyon Aesthetic Education Center for Children and the Youth, create an archive and restore a collection of Sumerian cuneiform tablets;

  • LUKOIL helped hold an exhibition at the V.M and A.M. Vasnetsovs Vyatka Regional Art Museum entitled “M.V. Nesterov. Marking the 150th Anniversary of the artist’s birth”, and helped create two multimedia products, “Virtual World of the Vyatka Museum of Fine Arts” and “Virtual Tour of Ryabovo, the Open-Air Museum of V.M. and A.M. Vastnetsovs”;

  • LUKOIL helped with the restoration of the Portrait of Yu.M. Graig by S.K. Zaryanko in the Mashkov Museum in Volgograd;

  • The company helped the Dogadin Art Gallery in Astrakhan hold an exhibition entitled “Our Neighbors”;

  • The Nizhny Novgorod State Museum of Fine Arts was supported in holding the exhibition entitled “In the Bosom of the Family”;

  • The Company sponsored the purchase of paintings by P.A. Maskaev for the Radishcev Museum in Saratov.

  • The Big P.I. Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra conducted by V.I. Fedoseev;

  • Perm State Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater;

  • Kaliningrad Oblast Philharmonic Orchestra and its program “Take your Entire Family to the Concert Hall with you!”;

  • The company allocated funds to host the M. Magomaev international singing contest.

In 2013 the Fund allocated significant means for restoration and reconstruction of a federal landmark “A 19th Century Wooden House” in Kirov, and in 2014 in Kirov sponsored the casting and erection of the monument to Fedor Shalyapin, one of Russia’s most famous singers.
